Volunteer tutors make a profound difference in the lives of their students

Many of our adult students who struggle to learn English have children who are fluent in English.
Here is one reason why we do what we do:

Tutors Needed!

The Community Literacy Council is always seeking dedicated adults, ages 18 and older, to volunteer as tutors in basic literacy or English as a second language.   Our tutors may choose to work with students one-on-one or in a small conversation group setting.

Our tutors meet with students in a public location, such as a public library, for 1.5 - 2 hours each week.  If you enjoy meeting new people and making a difference in our community, then please consider becoming an English language tutor.

                                Tutor Training

Our tutors complete 12 hours of professional training in the nationally recognized LITSTART training model.  We charge a $40 registration fee to cover the cost of materials and supplies.  A portion of the training, three hours, is to be completed online followed by classroom training.

Our next tutor training classroom sessions will be held on the following dates in our office at Starkweather Academy in Plymouth:
  1. Saturday, September 28, 2019  from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  2. Saturday, January 25, 2019  from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  3. Saturday, May 16, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
